It's held at Pensacola Florida, at a hotel resort right on a beautiful beach overlooking the Gulf coast. Last year it was 45 degrees, so I was constantly explaining why my pictures contained people dressed in winter clothes lounging in the sand - the two just don't seem to go together. But this year it was a sunny, 70 degrees! The weather was beautiful, the people were beautiful, and I had a great time.
Most of these shots were taken off-the-hip. As such, I was impressed to find
that most of them actually came out pretty well. Anyway, since these pictures
are just for fun, I did take the liberty of cropping them whenever I felt that
it would improve their overall appearance.

Mike Buckley is our campus minister, and the guy responsible for keeping this
motley group of rag-tag college kids walking in the Light. Here he relaxes in
the conference room as he waits for the service to begin.

A little girl is silhouetted against the sunlight as she plays in the surf.
Here she is watching her toes as the waves wash over them, burying them in
sand, and then retreating back into the sea, sucking the sand off of her toes
again.

Eat your heart out. This is the only photograph that I have found a need to
actually touch up. There was a slight lens flare that was large enough and
distracting enough that I had to take it out. There are, of course, other
flaws with the picture, but I left those alone. I love those colors though!

Chad shows off for the camera. I thought the lens flare was a nice touch.

This is the conference room that we met in. Last year there were 546 people
that registered for the retreat. This year there were just over 700! We were
sitting shoulder-to-shoulder and when the place was full movement was a little
tricky. If the retreat grows again like this next year, we may have to find a
larger place to meet!

As I approached this group, they decided to take advantage of my presence and
have me operate all their cameras while they posed for me. (Gosh, don't you
just hate it when pretty girls want to pose for you?) They are, from top to
bottom: Kristen; Corynn, Ashley; Brittany, Tafanie, and Becca.

Mommas lock up your sons, 'cause these girls play for keeps! This group seems
to have a sixth sense for knowing when someone has a camera pointed toward
them, and they have a bottomless bag of smiles just waiting. From the top
picture, left to right: Sol, Valerie, Wendy, and Kate.

A wet-and-slimy group of kids try to build a human pyramid despite how
slippery they are. They fall a couple of times, but they eventually succeed.
In the bottom picture, they almost have it when it starts to give way...

The guys and girls battle it out in a game of Red Rover. In the last picture,
the chain is broken as one of the guys blasts his way through with enough
force to keep going, spraying water and foam everywhere he runs.

The entire time that everyone was horsing around in the water, Josh and Kate
were fraternizing with the (*gasp*) married group down the beach from
us. I guess they decided that these two were behaving too seriously. Eight
guys chased Josh down and drug him, kicking all the way, down to the shoreline
and threw him in. Miraculously Josh almost held his own! He put up a valiant
effort. But in the end, he was forced to succumb to their superior numbers.
In the second picture, the guys jeer and laugh as Josh makes his way back onto
land.

Children are always a good picture subject, and this little tike looks a bit
upset when he realizes that I'm taking his picture. After I snapped the shot,
he ran away in terror to hide behind his mom. (Guess I just have that effect
on kids... :)
