Museum of Appalachia
This old 65-acre farm boasts a restored Appalachian village, along with a
museum full of treasures from the early settlers of Appalachia.
Here, visitors can experience Appalachian history not only by sight, but
also by the sounds and environment in which the people lived.
Each item in the museum and village has a story of how it is used and how
it arrived at the museum. Craftspeople
are invited to use the equipment and frequently are present to explain their
trades. John Rice Irwin, the
Museum’s founder, received a MacArthur “genius” award for his work in
developing this museum. This trip
will be offered on Sunday, July 14th. Cost
includes transportation, admission, and southern bar-b-que dinner.
This tour will depart after lunch on Sunday afternoon and return approximately 8 p.m. Cost: $27 tax-inclusive.
